Kids sometimes ask questions that seem tough, even threatening, questions about Creation, the Flood, ages of the Patriarchs, plagues on Egypt, the Exodus and the Torah itself. We'll talk about why its important for teachers to respond directly and honestly, why the questions are really neither hard nor dangerous and what some responses might be. We will also provide a list of resources for further study. This 10:40 am - 11:35 am breakout session is designed for teachers working with all grades 7 - high school
Since his retirement as a litigator at a major national law firm, Roger Price has focused on writing for and coordinating the Judaism and Science website, www.judaismandscience.com, a forum on fact, fiction and faith. There he and others explore the inter-relationship of Judaism and a variety of physical, biological and social sciences. Over the years, Roger has also taught at Hevreh: An Adult Jewish Learning Community, the URJ Summer Learning Institute, Limmud and various congregations, including Beth Emet in Evanston, Illinois, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees and occasionally also presents divrei torah at Kahal. Roger is a graduate of the University of Michigan and The University of Chicago Law School. Before joining Beth Emet thirteen years ago, Roger served as the president of the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston and, subsequently, as president of the international Federation of Reconstructionist Congregations and Havurot. On the spectrum of denominations, he considers himself just Jewish.
Though born and bred on the South Side of Chicago, Roger married a North Side girl, the remarkable storyteller and puppeteer Marilyn Price. He is the proud father of two and the button popping Pappy of three.
